Corporate plans will not change. So the "riff raff" get to get the shaft, while corporations get to keep their data plans in tact, and yes, for new plans, we get to keep our unlimited data usage.

"media content of the future will suck because there will be no true professionals producing it"
True professionals? By whose standards? Why does everyone ASSume good things can only be done by "professionals"?
I believe, you will see greater works being produced because the internet makes it easier, and more are exposed to good stuff, and will learn what is good & bad, then try to be better.

Yeah, and under the old way, they never get exposure. With the internet, they have more of a chance of being discovered by the masses.
"And so, as our ability to search for media content improves, the economic value of that content will approach zero."
I dont know where the logic for this comes in.
"You mean other than the lack of a crosswalk and the absence of sidewalks on either side?"
You live in a big city; Dont you?
Nastybutler77, there are plenty of areas that dont have painted crosswalks or lights in my area, and the surrounding area, but it is obvious that ppl need to use those roadways to get around on foot.
The road is 35 MPH. 4 lanes & a center turning lane. The nearest "big" street around me is a 2 lane with a foot and a half of shoulder and is 45 MPH.
The township set the speed limit at 35, because if you actually go and look at the area, it is obvious it is used by pedestrians.
Did anyone actually go to google maps and "walk" around? I did. The picture presented does not clearly depict the surroundings. In fact, there are 2 guys in the picture. I guess they shouldn't be walking around either.(click once forward then turn around) This person was clearly a moron in a hurry. There is no indication that this was a restricted to pedestrians roadway. The 35 MPH speed limit would indicate that it is known that pedestrians use this roadway. Most 4 lane with a turning lane highways around here are 45-55. I am not defending her stupidity, she is clearly trying to get paid, but lets not exaggerate the surroundings either.
What it does do, is create a mechanism for the politicians and MSM to discredit anyone who is not on the list, or anyone they dont agree with. Most sheeple will buy into this. Now they have something that looks "official".
Mike, it appears you are not a "real" journalist. Better pay up to get on the list.
"a license or certification is "proof""
OK...now I cant tell you how many "techs" have certifications that just studied questions and answers with no understanding of what or why. (A+, NET+, MCSA, etc)So they are "certified", but have no clue.
"otherwise you wouldnt be doing the work."
I made plenty of side money doing sinks, hot water heaters, etc. All that was needed back then was insurance, which I had. I explained to every client, that I was not certified as a master plumber, but carried 500k of insurance. After explaining my past history, and dropping some local names, I eventually made a good name for myself. I never had a dissatisfied client. My "proof" was my finished work.

"If I need a plumber, I want one who has credentials and who is licensed by the state."
I worked with a master plumber for close to 10 years. I can take your kitchen/bathroom down to wall studs, and back to a beautiful room using top notch materials.
Because I am not "licensed" with the state of Pa; does that mean I am not qualified?
"You have bloggers and editorial writers who write about what we are doing who never come up here and have no idea what's going on."
Yeah, and obviously we have Senators who are "up there" and have no idea what's going on either.
"Hopefully, with all of the publicity that these recent cases have gotten, people will start paying attention to what's going on in our public schools."
Im in the area of Lower Merion. I had a user come in and we were talking about what had happened, and her concern was that her taxes would go up. She has a daughter in 12th grade. She said, "Aww, all they will see if they looked, was my girls confused look as she tried to figure out her homework." Then went on to complain about taxes, and how it looked. Forget the possibility some scumbag tech could have seen her naked, or those photos could some day appear on the internet... She was more concerned about prestige, and money. This is a typical attitude for the area. Very stuck up.
"Adults would never stand for the level of scrutiny and illegal behavior that these children are forced to deal with."
I am not so optimistic. PPL will put up with an amazing amount of crap. The past 10 years has shown that. LOL.
"What about Class A leads you to believe that?"
Class A NAT? You have a router that supports class A IP range. Its like saying your getting your wife a breast bra.
Get another machine, set a static ip in the range of your ip scope, connect to your network, ping another machine with file sharing turned on.
"do you really think that they're doing something nefarious with it? "
No, but who they are selling this info to? That is what my concern is. Dont kid yourself, they were collecting this data with the hopes of selling it.
Just because I am paranoid, doesnt mean they are not after me.
"But its a class A NAT so thats a crapload of guessing."
254 guesses per segment, not that many.
chances are your ip range is 192.168.1.xxx Most are not technical enough to know how to change that.
"The DHCP server will not offer anything."
"you aint hacking another IP out of it."
Dont have to. Chances are your DNS is set to 192.168.1.1 as is the gateway. I set a static ip of 192.168.1.254 use net stumbler to acquire your SSID, use pingsweep to discover your machines, barring no local firewall is on, and sharing has been allowed. Then start trying to crack the local admin password to machines listed. Not very hard at all. To me, its not worth the time either. (Unless I know you have 100 gigs of mp3's) LOL
If i knew you had something good, I might spend the time to sweep through 192.168.0-9.xxx I would use a CMD script to change IP and ping a range to a text file, then walk away for a while.
Only way to "secure" your wireless is to set up encryption(with a strong password), dont broadcast SSID, and use MAC filtering. MAC filtering is most important because it will deny access to the router, and stop the method mentioned above. Not that there are not other ways I wont describe here.

My street has no lights, sidewalks, or crosswalks. The surrounding streets do not as well. Does that mean I cannot walk anywhere after dark?
Common sense tells you(or should tell you) to be careful and look both ways before you cross.

Small suggestion
On the post: Lawyer Explains Reasoning For Suing Google Over Walking Directions: It Was Dark
It was 6 in the morning. It was not a busy street [then]
Crosswalks? I live in a semi rural area and not only do most of the streets not have sidewalks, there are no crosswalks painted on the streets.
Does that mean I cannot walk anywhere?
Stupidity should not be rewarded.
