first off, that's nonsense. in 5 years of torrenting, i've never found a virus, outside of a few dodgy game cracks, which was mostly my own fault for not sticking to trusted uploaders. never anything in a movie or music file.
Then again, i use a bit of common sense, and actually check comments before downloading random crap, and i stick to streamed porn. (if you're going to find something dodgy, it's most likely in porn, for soem reason porn downloaders all seem to be morons when it comes to comps.
secondly, it's not like it's hard to run malware bytes and fix it if you do get teh internet herpes.
thirdly, most communities are pretty damned quick to pull dodgy files.
i have to admit, i'm far more likely to turn around and just hit the next google news result rather than deal with any sort of work around, let alone pay for MOST sites.
(the ones i'd bother to work around are mostly smart enough never to give me a reason to need to.)
"So, the FAA is concerned that a device that puts out emissions at a level that could be generously termed a rounding error will brick the plane during takeoffs and landing."
but while we're on the subject, i've been speaking up for years about there being some really stupid shit that can get someone put on the sex offender list.
pretty sure it's been mentioned on techdirt a time or 5 too.
oh. and i'll cop to being a pirate. Various artists have made about a grand from me and my wife this year, directly, into their pocket at various shows, concerts and, conventions. Zombie gatekeeper industry's haven't made a dime from me. The only thing they've got coming is the sound of my feet dancing on their grave.
odd that you see things that way, i consistently find the stories to be well researched, well linked with sources, and usually easily googleable.
and as i mentioned, this issue isn't something necessarily from techdirt, they didn't break it, and were really only repeating the information that was in the torrentfreak article with a bit of polish. I only asked because i figured it was an obvious question more likely to get answered here.
I saw this on torrentfreak the other day...what jumps out at me is the lack of sourcing.
now i would guess that since everyone mentions that these are STATIC ip addy's registered to the various orgs and domains that someone took a list and started comparing it against swarm data. that would be my assumption.
but we all know what happens when you assume. So what's up techdirt, who's compiling a database of swarm IP's that these are being run against?
so basically it sounds like they've moved into the AOL business model of collecting money from those too old or too dumb to know that they don't need to pay, combined with it actually being free for anyone who'd like to take any minimal effort.
that's sure to end well, any day now AOL stock will bounce back, you'll see.
look, i'm just going to put it out there. Senator Wyden could order me to march into hell (new jersey i believe) and i would grab a go bag and start hitching rides.
No homo, but i wish he'd adopt me into his district just so i could vote for him. Wyden 2016!
you had us at "they're secretly interpreting laws, and classifying the interpretation".
lots of people need to read it. then they need to realize that anon isn't a group, it's a suggestion. if you're moved to act, then ACT! then tell us about it. if it's lulzy or it's righteous, maybe it will spark and gain momentum. most likely not. But the point is if you sit around waiting for someone else to do it for you, then it wasn't that important was it?
kind of interesting timing. My family was in for christmas this year, and i discovered a gap in my fully networked, watch anything any time home set up. I don't have any methods of getting live sports, never needed one, never cared. My grandmother however is a college basketball fan. So she asked, "well do you have a radio i can listen to it on"?
i had to think about it for a few minutes and realized i didn't have a flat out fm radio anywhere in the house except the kids alarm clock. Everything was set up to stream local music, or pandora, or various internet radio set ups....
I eventually got her a radio stream from espn, but it took me a few minutes.
people say the reason cable won't die is because of live sports, i say who gives a crap about live sports? in 3 years thats the first time the question ever arose here.

We got a canned response from the drug czar. The next few got canned press release statements and politiflak.
Only thing left to do is troll it into oblivion to expose the absurdity, and i'd say we're well on our way to that.
