uh, mr. cressman, i'm afraid i have some bad news for you: um, first, 'competency', 'knowledge', 'experience', and 'expertise' have NOTHING to do with being a mainstream politician... please disabuse yourself of that non-starter...
and while there are *some* clueless dolts who are twue bewievers and spout whatever idiotic crap their handlers tell them to, *most* are smart enough to realize what they are selling is snake oil, but they don't care, it is all about power and perquisites... the way to get those power and perquisites is to do the bidding of the 1%... the way to NOT get power and perquisites is to do the bidding of the 99%... it IS that simple...
it has actually been 'proven' that the wants/needs of 99% of us have close to ZERO influence on the political system... there are all kinds of realizations which should follow from that factoid... ('show me an acorn, and i can deduce the universe', kind of thing...)
i appreciate the apparent restraint, and additional caveats offered as to *why* termination upon accusation is not viable...
however, i think it has gotten even further than that, like the idea that most of us probably don't get through a day without a felony or two (BECAUSE of the kriminalization of life, NOT because we are actually kriminals), most of us are *probably* 'guilty' of some ridiculously broad copyright/trademark traducing at some point or another (OR the mere ACCUSATION of such from unknown unknowns)...
again, the point is the kriminalization of EVERYONE, such that EVERYONE is subject to being jacked up for ANYTHING at ANYTIME... then, any citizen dares bitch about anything, the KGB, er, i mean stasi, er, i mean SS, er, i mean, i mean our dearly beloved faderland superiors who are only concerned with our safety and well-being will rightfully and wisely see to our, um, re-education to the correct normality...
Re: Re: Vtech needs to be sued out of business quickly
yes, they could... the sheeple could do ALL sorts of stuff if they acted in concert... prolly not gonna happen until the bread and circuses run out... then it will be too late...
besides -no slur upon techdirtia- but how many parents are tuned in to this website on the off chance some tech-related story has this impact on their special snowflakes ? ? ? otherwise, it gets a 10 second mention on the mainstream news, then down the memory hole it is flushed ! ! !
woohoo don't go in for too many 'me too' posts, but that was spot on... i LOVE taking someone's own (purported) values and turning the tables on them, as you so ably did there...
no, he's just a tool... *my* theory for why so many of these tech-ignorant ideas are floated, is because they DON'T want capable, knowledgeable, experienced nerds, et al to provide any significant advise and guidance (never mind leadership)...
*that* would shoot down ALL their idiotic ideas; and they don't really care they are idiotic, they just want to out-bluster the other pols...
actually listening to the nerderati and basing decisions on that could lead to well-measured and smart responses (which *might* include 'doing nothing', *gasp*), and we can't have that ! ! !
Re: U.S. law might not apply, but it's clearly not eligible for a new copyright
maybe contrary to expectations if sheeple never gave it more than five seconds thought... otherwise, these scenarios should immediately spring to mind: i work for decades, weally, weally *hard* for an undogly number of hours, but my end product is still not very good, in fact, not 'worth' anything, it is so bad... am i 'owed' *something* from some unknown *someones* for my 'effort' ? ? ? don't be daft, punk... another me in an alternate universe bangs out a pop song in less than an hour which goes mega-viral and 'earns' me billions of dollars... may not be 'morally' 'right', but sure is right legal-wise...
not only that, but YOU are PAYING (extra) for the gummint to put that on the plate; in effect, they are a merely a printing press... are printers now claiming they own every book they print, and will determine what does/doesnt' go in it ? ? ?
Re: Re: "I see no problem barring someone from using the phone on accusations alone, they can always write."
"I would literally lose my job if I didn't have internet access at home."
thank you, pretty much exactly my situation, except i work in the office most of the time... however, my job is predicated on inertnet access where we have a lot of stuff on google's cloud, proprietary s/w *only* accessible over the tubes, email as the blood of our company and getting deliverables to customers... our bidness is pretty much dead in the water without internet, and -needless to say- anyone working there had better be 'allowed' to access it, or wave buh-bye...
not only that, while my job could *theoretically* NOT need inertnet access, it almost always does, the way things practically work...
and so, not only unemployable, BUT ALSO unable to FIND employment in the first place, since 90%+ of your job search activities involve the net...
i'm guessing the judge is simply fascinated by the iridescent bubble he lives it...

1. there is nothing 'wrong' with the commercial (excepting that there is something 'wrong' with ALL commercials); it is just that the mildly amusing context IS lost after the millionth showing in the last hour... (actually, the amusement is lost after the first 3-4 showings, the other million are what induces the brain to be one neuron away from going postal...)
2. on point of your boring commentators: i have always wished a couple regular guys/gals who are semi-knowledgeable of the sport would provide their own irreverent commentary of the games, AND poke the NFL in the eye for their bullshit "retransmission is illegal and we'll kill you, blah blah blah"... with the right guys/gals providing off-the-wall comments, it might make pro football fun again...
3. "It made her hate the stream, the advertiser, and probably me for having it on in the first place." how long have you been married ? ? ? the order would be: hates YOU for having it on in the first place, and MAYBE thinks about the original offenders being semi-responsible...
...but technically, replacing one 'gatekeeper' (assange) with another 'gatekeeper' (the intercept) is not exactly lessening the degrees of separation from us sheeple to the whistleblowers... THAT would be if the whistleblower just PUT IT ALL OUT THERE, *blap*: no filters, no amelioration, no redacting, no protecting bullshit national sekurity reasons, etc...
i don't get it: why fiats ? ? ? there are a lot of cars that are a lot nicer than fiats, like hyundais; so why not a ford currency, or a tesla currency ? ? ?
yes, i read that one too, interesting stuff... turns out one smart kgb type had a list of criteria he had garnered over the years that when winnowed through gave them about a 99.99% chance of 'guessing' (it wasn't guessing) who was/wasn't a cia stooge in state dept clothing... a LOT of it was such stupid, elementary stuff, you REALLY do wonder about the 'intelligence' of so-called intelligence agencies... for example, they were too fucking cheap to mix it up when a new spook was introduced into the embassy fold, so they were put up in the SAME FUCKING HOUSE the previous spook was given... same with their local cars, etc... herp derp there were other clues, as far as real state dept types would have on their record they went to a certain school for state dept 'stuff', while the spooks skipped class... when they put all these together, they had a near fool-proof method of spotting the spooks, DUE TO OUR OWN laziness and stupidity... no wiretaps, no backdoors, no blackbag jobs, no social engineering (although i'm sure they do all those too), just plain open records and holmesian ratiocination... AS IF anyone with two INDEPENDENT eyes can't tell all this spookery has NOTHING to do with the russkies or red chinee, and EVERYTHING about keeping the rabble in line in der faderland...
