Start-up tips

from the my-dot-com-is-worth-a-fortune dept

Frontier online, has been evolving pretty fast. It's been a little crude but the few articles that are included in the site are very good quality. One of particular interest is"How much is that start-up in the window?", very enlightening, covering how to deal with VC's. Of course, getting that far is a totally different story.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Hmm...

You get the feeling that whoever wrote that article has never dealt with a VC before. The truth is you use every and any method to try to make your valuation seem higher, and the VC's will use every and any method to shake their heads and explain why your valuation simply must be lower. It honestly doesn't matter what the number you start with is, because the VC will always try and make it lower, so start high and come up with plenty of reasons to justify it. Then, just get other investors in on the bidding process, and your valuation will stay up high.

My hat comes off to the evil editor (hehe!), he has again shown his strong business acumen! I agree with you but it's still not a bad article for a newbie like me.
