Techdirt Traffic Jump

from the hmmmmm dept

Well, I usually don't spend too much time with Techdirt's traffic numbers, though I do check them on occasion. It's usually a pretty consistent increase. Two weeks ago there was an extra bump due to Inter@ctive Week's mention. What's odd is I just checked and there was a big bump (more than 20% over what I'd expect) last Wednesday as well. If you happened to discover Techdirt in the last week (especially Wednesday) anyone care to share where they found out about it? Just curious...

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    geekboys traffic?

On Jan 18th or 19th, techdirt was added to the geekboys.org collection of portals. Could some of the traffic be due to that?

    One Potential Source

Techdirt was mentioned in *today's* The Globe and Mail, which is a Canadian paper. Here's the link. Of course, this doesn't explain the bump from last week...

Re: how about you let us know how many we are...?

To be honest, it's tough to know exactly how big it is. Which metrics to use and what they mean and when... We're working on a page that will show some of the data. But I can tell you that last week there were nearly 10,000 "visits" and over 50,000 "hits".

    Re: One Potential Source

Whoa, preview messed that up. TechDirt (and over 950 other news sources) can also be read using Headline Viewer (http://www.vertexdev.com/HeadlineViewer in case the HTML is messed up again on Submit).

Headline Viewer is a Windows client for syndicated news headlines.

    Where I heard about TD

First heard about it actually via palm.net.
This was some time ago. After hearing about
it recently in Inter@ctive Week, it was added
    to a huge bookmark list.

I heard about techdirt on palm.net as well

It's been listed in the web clipping apps in the News category. Someone wrote a PQA for clipping the news articles.
