CMGI of Wireless

from the getting-serious-about-cutting-the-wires dept

This is a day old, but it hasn't been posted on TD and I think its worthy. High level Microsoft and McCaw alums have formed Ignition Corp, a company they hope to be the CMGI of wireless ventures. They are starting with a $140M fund. The money is being contributed by the 8 founders and partners such as Qualcomm, Softbank Venture Capital and Madrona Ventures Group. All right, so where do I sign up for some of that $$$?

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    I avoided posting on purpose

I actually chose not to post it as I thought it was more of a non-event. Okay, so a lot of well known execs form a VC firm focusing on wireless - but there's no indication of what they're actually going to do or if they'll be any good at it. If anything this strikes me as a lot of hype and very little substance. I'll be more interested in seeing the deals they actually do and if they make any sense...

Or was it because SparkPr is doing their PR? Ha!
