Do Zaplets Make a Difference?

Salon examines the new Zaplet technology that lets you create interactive emails. It's an interesting concept, but realistically, all they're doing is turning your email into a web page. I'm not sure of the value of this. They say it will cut down on email and remind you to do things you normally do on the web. Of course, now you just have to remember to do them on email. So, when do we start talking about email/web convergence?
