Looking at Half.com

from the not-half-bad dept

I'll admit that I never really checked out Half.com before. Any company that convinced a town to rename itself Half.com struck me as being a little too insane to bother with. However, the NY Times has taken a look at Half.com and they seem to like what they see. I do think it's a pretty good idea, that seems to have been built well. The question is how well they can get their brand out there. I guess that NY Times article doesn't hurt.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    I've used half.com

I liked the service, but they need to modify their shipping policy. Basically, you can order x number of different used products from y number of different vendors, and get one shipment from the company. The problem is that I ordered four used books, with a total amount of $15, and shipping came to almost $7. It sort of kills the motivation to buy used goods...
