Improving on the Browser

from the why-bother? dept

A story in Forbes about people trying to create a better browser metaphor. I understand their complaints about the limitations and problems with current browsing, but let's face it: browsing today is simple and most people understand it. Most of these alternate solutions may be cool, but they're a lot more complex and confusing.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    New broswer ideas?

    I love MSIE5 w/ autoForms.....very cool.

I would like to see 'on the fly frames', where I can say poof, and my screen splits into two different frames....and be able to surf both at the same....time, not as in horz. tile, just one browser, such as Tabs. Also, would be nice to have floating location bar....when full screening.

yah. ie5 rocks.. there's an add-on called "quick search" that absolutely rocks.. with it, you can type "y techdirt", for example, and it will automatically spawn a search on yahoo for "techdirt" -- and the best part is that you can create your own quick search strings..
