Techdirt Tries Radio?

from the techdirt-gets-experimental dept

Okay, okay, so it's been done before. Not quite like this, though. We at Techdirt decided to experiment a bit last night with audio as well, which leads us to the first "beta" test of Techdirt's radio program: "Tech Dirty to Me" (which was a tagline someone had suggested and is too good not to use in some manner). Anyway, it's short (less than 5 minutes) and it's very experimental, so let us know what you like and don't like, and we'll see whether we care about your feedback or not. The low bandwidth version and the high bandwidth version.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    very cool!

Well done guys, its really a great idea. Of course, the recording quality could be improved a little bit and you could create a professional intro, but for the first version its really cool. How about you have a special link to the TechDirt Radio on the nav bar at the top with a weekly (or even daily) radio show. Also, how about you invite (in real or over the phone) some of the people you are writing about and do one interview per show on a TechDirt topic (those people don't have to be Bill Gates, but could be interesting people with backround info and insights).

    In any case, keep going.

      Re: very cool!

Thanks. Those are all really good points and suggestions. As for professional quality of both the recording and things like an intro, we decided to just get this one out there, but our plans for the future are to use better equipment and polish it up a bit.

Don't take this the wrong way, guys, but loosen up. I didn't listen to very much because it sounded stilted and forced. Don't worry about production values and don't try to script it very tightly; just talk about what you think is interesting.

    Love the groovy music. :)

Very nice, guys. I find it ironic that, over on WonkoSlice, folks are telling us to be less spontaneous and more scripted with WonkoSlice Radio, and here at Techdirt people are telling you guys to be more spontaneous and less scripted with "Tech Dirty to Me". Perhaps there's a happy medium somewhere. :) In any case, let's hear some more episodes. You've definitely all got senses of humor, the show's informative, and if you can make it sound just a bit less scripted, it'll be perfect. Good work.

Re: Love the groovy music. :)

Yeah, we figured that would be the one big complaint. Actually, we sat around afterwards and complained how scripted it sounded. But, the important part was seeing whether or not people liked the concept. And, yes, the groovy music was important. Dennis and I had to go through quite a few selections before finding the "right" one.
