Hollywood Looks Dot Com
from the it's-about-time dept
I'd been wondering why there haven't been any movies or TV shows that focus on the dot com craze, and apparently, I wasn't the only one. Salon takes a look at some of the projects that are being worked on in Hollywood. The problem, it seems, is coming up with a good story. Since the actual work at a dot com is fairly mundane, the setting is pretty boring, so there has to be a really good story associated with it. I definitely think there are some good stories that can come out of the internet world, but it's not clear how many of them can be made into movies. On the cool side, they do mention that Po Bronson's novel, The First $20 Million is the Always the Hardest is being made into a movie by John Favreau of Swingers fame. Though, on the negative side are plans to make a "Real World" style TV show following around people at a dot com. I don't think that's a very good idea.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
