Courtney Love on the RIAA, Napster, and Lots of Other Stuff
from the wow dept
Okay, this article is long but totally worth reading. It's a speech that Courtney Love gave about her opinions on the music business, the RIAA, and Napster. I don't know much about Courtney Love. I don't know much about her music. The speech, though, is fascinating. She claims she doesn't know much about Napster, but I think she clearly gets it. She does say she's on the side of Lars and Metallica, but the more you read, the more you realize that she isn't in agreement with them. She understands that the music industry is where the real piracy occurs in that they've built artificial barriers to getting music out into the world. This is a great reply to the Edgar Bronfman speech we discussed here in detail two weeks ago. There's a ton more that can be said about this speech, but I've already taken up too much space.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
