Linux is Communism

from the Ballmer-PR dept

Arthur writes "According to Steve Ballmer, CEO Microsoft, Linux is communism." This is the exact same line that Bill Gates used about the browser when Netscape launched because they gave it out for free, and see what happened there? Microsofties will say anything, but watch what they do.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Communism?

Well.....as Americans we are supposed to hate Communism.....the whole anti-capitalistic outlook that the "want more money" generation of today screaming from .com's to VC/B2B/B2C etc.

Free is good, as said in "The Replacements", "do you know how much insurance runs on a Ferarri?!?". I am all for free, most of the time. I buy my CDs, but use Free OSes [FreeBSD]. Free internet is GOOD, free porn is Bad. :) Free BEER is good...[i dont drink] but free garlic is bad.

Free OSes are nice, but they come w/ a price tag called a learning curb, lack of support/software and this may cost more in the long run to save that first 60-900$.

    Rock on...........

    He doesn't get it.

He clearly doesn't get what free software is all about, just like every other suit I've heard talk about Linux. They're all warped with their proprietary, business-oriented view of software. They just don't get it. They probably never will.

It's not about the price, or the

err, my second paragraph was cut off.

Anyway, it's not about the price, or the "consumer", or the demand, or about the "market share", or the competition. It's about the code. It's about the software. And it gets written.

I wouldn't necessarily take what Ballmer says at face value. While he may say that, watch his actions to see how serious he is about Linux.

This is one of the most intelligent posts on the Internet. Too bad the psychotic Linux fans will not accept that even if it hits them square in the face.
