Is Keen.com Revolutionizing the Phone Industry or Just Phone Sex?

from the phone-sex-online dept

A few people I know have gone to work for Keen.com. Every time someone decides to take a job there, we get into the "wow, so you're going to work for a phone sex company" discussion (which they don't always appreciate). Keen.com positions themselves as "revolutionizing the telephone", but it seems more and more like they are just revolutionizing the 1-900 phone number business. For this they've raised nearly $70 million? It seems a bit too much. The fact is that I really have no desire to randomly call some stranger for a fee. Maybe I'm missing something about the service (other than that they have perhaps the most annoying television commercials I've ever seen - that literally make me change the channel to get away from them). I would be interested to see why fans of Keen like it so much. Feel free to tell me what I'm missing.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

I am a psychic phonesex operator *powered by keen.

I am offering 3 free minutes and you can talk to me and find out if you would like to talk dirty to me. I charge about 1.00 dollar per minute. My dirty talk is for the soul and phone sex sexual healing. *Keen is a reputable and professional internet phone services website.

    Future of Phone Sex

Working in the phone sex industry, I think there's plenty of opportunity for reviving audio chat. Definitely not to the level it was in the 80's, but with new technology coming out I think there's some exciting possibilities to provide these old fashioned services to a younger audience. We're delivering to all mobile devices a click-to-call service that connects you to phone sex girls, and we've had some solid success with this. Do you know the parent company for Keen? Is AT&T and YellowPages really selling adult chat services? Very interesting! Go check out our iPhone Phone Sex Lines to see what we're up to.

Are you sure you know what you are tlaking about?

    hi,
Last time I Called keen.com I talked about my job issues and the person on the phone did not advice me to have phone sex with her OR him. are you sure your talking about the right website? i guess some people on keen do that Crap but I will be extra careful next time. I was also thinking of counseling through that site. I do however agree that the site is out there to make money. unfortunately it is ALWAYS about that but I am sure NOT everyone who works through that site aims for that only.

I think what keen is doing is great

Whether its the phone sex or the psychic lines, I see nothing wrong with giving people access to these types of services. It's entertainment, there just seem to be more demand for tarot and dirty talk than for therapists. Also, are they referring to Phone sex as Love Advice?
