More Mistaken Identity - Katie.com

Just yesterday I posted the story of mistaken identity online where the owner of bbva.com had to deal with plenty of people who thought he was associated with a huge Spanish and Latin American Bank. Now, here's the story of a woman (named Katie) who owns Katie.com. The problem is that there is now a book out called Katie.com which is the true story of a teenaged girl who was molested by someone she met online. Now the owner of Katie.com is getting tons of emails about similar episodes. To some extent this is similar to the ongoing problems I'm having here with Techdirt's inadvertent connection with CBS Survivor (yes, I'm still getting lots of email about it).

Ohmygod...
As for mistaken identities, you would think some company could serve as the traffic cops and correct search engine listings. Register.com will give you monthly warnings about who is registering domain names that are 'similar' to yours. Take that service one step further and you could 'correct' mistaken identities as they come along. But how to *prevent* misdirected surfers is not clear... I mean how many people are still fooled by whitehouse.com? Do we need a totally new way of assigning domains?
