Living.com Shuts Down
from the bye-bye dept
Yet another dot com failures, as Living.com has laid off everyone and filed for bankruptcy. What makes this especially interesting is that they are backed by Amazon (which, I'm sure at the time convinced them that they were clearly on their way to a long successful future). I am still a little surprised that they simply pulled the plug on it entirely instead of trying to either fold it in to another company, or make a deal with a brick-and-mortar company. I guess that tells us that they had almost no business whatsoever. It's fun to see these companies that didn't believe in such silly things as "proof-of-concept" finally go under. The sad part is the founders will now be able to go out and raise millions more for their next venture, simply because they've "done it before" even if they did it stupidly.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
