Buying Clothes That Fit Online

from the it-all-sounds-good-in-theory... dept

Two different companies have come up with two different methods to help shoppers buy clothes online. They are both trying to solve the problem of consumers buying clothes online that don't fit when they get to the house - meaning costly returns. The two methods are very different, and both companies claim the other company's method won't work. Meanwhile everyone else is upset about the privacy policies of both companies. One company involves a full body scan at retail outlets. Once that's done, you have a unique identifier that will let retailers know your size. The other method is through collaborative filtering on what you already own and like. Honestly, I doubt either of these will work very well. It's tough enough to go to a real store now and pick out two clothes items that say they're the same size and have them both fit well.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
