The Return Of Boo.com

from the it's-baaaaaack... dept

Yes, that's right, FashionMall, the company that bought the remains of Boo.com are getting ready to relaunch the site. From their description, it sounds like it will be just as bad as the original site. They're keeping Miss Boo who they say will provide "kicky, irreverent product commentary" (what the hell is "kicky commentary"?). Of course if the comment, "We're creating a virtual party where the famous, infamous and anonymous can interact with impunity." doesn't scare you off, perhaps their plans on how to make money should. They don't seem to want to make money by selling products with a good healthy margin, but rather they admit revenue will come from selling customer data. Now there's a winning strategy in these days when all anyone is talking about is protecting online privacy.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    good flopping publicity

I guess being a high profile flop gave them some pretty good publicity so I actually think it's a good idea if consumers feel safe enough to shop there. I had to stop myself from saying again because I don't know anyone that actually bought stuff there, just browsed!
