Groove Unveils

from the something-big,-or-just-another-thing? dept

Another mystery down the drain. After years of highly guarded secrecy (and lots of speculation) Groove Networks has revealed what they do. Apparently, they're doing collaboration software that includes file sharing and eats memory like all the memory chip plants are burning to the ground. So, most of the rumors about what they were working on turned out to be true. Based on the description, I'm underwhelmed. I'm willing to test it out, but I'm not convinced there's any real reason to use this. It doesn't sound all that different from what's out there, and they're going to have to differentiate themselves somehow. I'm also curious as to how they're going to price it. I'd look on their website, but it's apparently getting hit pretty hard right now because I certainly can't get in (not necessarily a good sign).

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
