Scooter Tragedy To Blame For Walmart.com Problems?

from the rumors-rumors-rumors dept

It's good to see Chris Nolan is still working hard getting good Silicon Valley rumors for the NY Post instead of the SJ Merc (who fired her over a stupid incident). The latest is wondering whether or not Walmart.com's problems are related to the unfortunate death of their CTO in a scooter accident. The article also talks about how the employees of X.com apparently signed a petition asking their CEO to step down.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    WalMart is coming back...

In the SF Examiner yesterday, there was a note, that WalMart should be live again, before Nov. 1.

Why did the site go down completely, during the retooling?

Apparently they don't have a backup set of servers to run the system with. So when they started pushing an entire build up for testing, they had to kill the existing site to utilize that hardware. Granted, I think there had to be a more elegant way to handle it. But that's the course they took. In their defense, most .com's have to worry about mind-share. That's not really an issue for WalMart, so I don't think it will be a crippling thing, to have the site down for a month.
