Holiday Season Good Or Bad?

from the well,-this-study-says... dept

Is this holiday season going to be good or bad for e-commerce? Apparently, it depends on who you talk to. Some studies are saying that everything looks great and people can't wait to do all their holiday shopping on the web. However, a different study is warning that this holiday season is off to a slow start online. My guess is that the big name online sites will do just fine, though they won't necessarily take over the world, as some people expected them to do after last year's performance.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Holiday Season

I love the comment 'everything looks great' I always picture someone saying that as they are walking off a cliff.

Anyway, I think the holiday season will be mixed for online. Last year seem to be the first big year for online buying. Something new always draws a crowd. This year, more online looking and then physical shopping is my guess. I think the catalog companies will do a good about of business. I enjoy looking at the catalog and then buying on-line.

You still can't beat sitting on the couch browsing through catalogs.
