Another Optimistic Outlook

from the the-stock-market-backlash-backlash dept

So, yesterday Forbes has an article saying "things aren't that bad" and "things will get better", and it didn't take Fortune long to come out with their own "things are looking up" article. To be honest, when everyone starts saying things like that I have to wonder if we're all just rationalizing. However, the arguments they make, for the most part, do ring true. I believe that people have over reacted to the market downturn... but perception can often become reality. Hopefully, some of these articles will turn the perception into a more optimistic future.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Wrong!

No, it will get worse, particularly in the US. The way the US economy is working at the moment will lead to all kinds of problems. You can't have a system where nobody saves. It doesn't work.

Details? It's easy to say things will get worse, but I'd be more interested if you could back up those statements with why you think that's the case. I'm also not sure I understand what you mean by a "system where nobody saves". Please explain.
