Will The Real Geek TV Please Stand Up?

from the hollywood-vs.-real-geeks dept

An article in Salon looks at Hollywood attempts at putting geeks on TV versus other attempts. The argument is that Hollywood doesn't really get geeks, and the best geek shows out there are BattleBots and Junkyard Wars. Of course, they also mention Freaks & Geeks - which was a Hollywood production, even if it did get killed off quickly.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Not Hollywood

neither of the programs you mention are US spawned - they both originate in the UK, even though US TV has picked them up.

      Re: Not Hollywood

Right. That was the point. Hollywood doesn't get geeks... so the best "geek" TV is not from Hollywood... Sorry if I didn't make that clear in the post.

tf.n digital - a Star Wars Video News Show

Someone in New York apparently gets geeks and is doing a biweekly Star Wars Video News Show on the web. They just got mentioned in USATODAY.com and have been pushing the barriers in delivering the end user what they want.
