No More Snow Days Thanks To The Web
from the that's-awful dept
One of the nice things about living in California is that you almost never see snow (unless you want to head up to the mountains). That's the adult in me - who got sick of driving in the snow - speaking. However, as a kid, growing up in a colder climate on a different coast, snow meant days off from school along with lots of sledding and snowball fights (and hot chocolate afterwards). Now, some horribly evil teacher in the New York City school system is trying to do away with snow days by posting "extra credit" assignments on the web when that happens. I'm all for adding the internet to the classroom experience (if done intelligently), but snow days are sacred. Most of the article is actually about ways that this one teacher tries to involve the internet in his teaching - and most of it seems to be very good. But, no snow days? Man, that would have sucked.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
