One Step Towards Solving Patent Problems

from the build-a-big-database-of-ideas dept

An interesting article in Salon about the new IP.com-Foresight IP database. The idea is that anyone can submit projects they are working on. So, an open source developer can basically use the database to prove that what they're working on exists - which can then be used as prior art examples in patent disputes. In fact, US and European patent offices claim they'll check the database. However, many feel that it will do little good in actually preventing ridiculous patents from getting through.
