The NY Times Discovers David Touretzky's DeCSS Gallery

The NY Times has a pretty good article about Professor David Touretzky's DeCSS Gallery which he sees as an expression of free speech. They talk about the recent accusation from the MPAA that he's a movie pirate (despite claiming he's never even watched a video on DVD). I also like his description of saying that the courts have decided that something isn't free speech if it "threatens profits". This has been my argument all along with all of these intellectual property cases. Profits aren't a government granted right. It's what smart business people need to figure out how to get out of a good idea/product. I don't ask the government to force people to give me money for doing Techdirt. Why do the recording industry and the music industry feel they can?
