More Killer App Crap

from the yeah,-sure,-whatever-you-say dept

A short little article about a company that is creating a system for wireless video messaging (as if anyone needs that). The best part, though is the quote from the CEO explaining why this is the "killer app" for wireless: "The reason why multimedia messaging is going to be the first killer application is simply because people want to share the moments with others and create own content to their video messages." Translation: we're a killer app because we think it's kinda cool, so of course everyone else definitely wants this sorta useless technology we've come up with. I'm sure the technology is cool, but don't claim it's the "killer app" until you have millions of customers banging down your door demanding it.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    What people want

The article was too short to be able to say anything useful about the product, but if it’s cheap and intuitive it might actually sell. The article below documents peoples desire to communicate with one another. Content is not king
