Go To Porn, Young Dot Commer

from the career-changes dept

People are getting laid off from dot coms by the thousands, and yet unemployement is staying quite low. Where are all these dot commers going? It seems that porn companies are suddenly getting a lot of resumes from laid off dot commers. The porn companies are still raking in the cash, so the pay checks are less likely to bounce. Apparently, us young folks today are quite comfortable with porn and don't think working in the porn industry has as bad a stigma as it used to. Of course, that didn't stop one of the guys interviewed from admitting that he hasn't told his parents where he works now. Update: Despite what the original article here said (saying that porn is a recession proof business), here's an article saying that the economic downturn is hitting porn sites as well. Traffic is down and people are cancelling their memberships.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
