Companies Raising Over $100 Million In Venture Funding
from the these-days? dept
With all the talk about how difficult it is to raise venture capital money these days, seven companies managed to raise over $100 million in their last rounds. Of course, with most of these they had to scale back their plans, as it was clear that this was the last venture money they were going to get - even if they had plans that required more. I guess with venture capitalists having large funds on their hands, they figured it's worth taking just a few big bets, even in down times. I have to admit that I still don't understand PacketVideo (one of the lucky 7) - who apparently wants to do streaming video to mobile phones. I'm definitely a gadget fan, and I'll buy stuff for the "cool factor", but streaming video on my mobile phone has no interest to me.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
