Lessons From The Online Gambling Industry
from the a-growing-trend dept
Thomas Stewart takes a look at what's happening in the online gambling world and then tries to apply the lessons being learned there to regular internet companies. First, he makes the point that gambling is a good online business since it can be almost entirely virtual - nothing tangible needs to be exchanged. That means it's much easier to put online. Second, brand matters. You're less likely to trust an online gambling site based out of some small island, then one associated with a big name casino. The same is true for other online companies as well. Finally, you need to have good customer relationship management, to make sure customers keep coming back. Okay, these are all good "lessons", but I'm not sure that anyone running any business doesn't realize these things are true already without having to take a look at the gambling business.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
