Five Wireless Myths
from the let-it-go,-people dept
The Industry Standard looks at five myths of the wireless world. Most of them have to do with why people will run to accept high speed wireless when it comes. No, they won't accept it just because iMode was a success, or because bluetooth applications will just be that cool. Tragically, for many of the companies jumping into the wireless world, wireless applications are a "nice to have" and not a "need to have" for many people. I think it's still a long way off from switching over.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Re: Wireless
I'm still hoping that there's a last minute rescuer who will keep the service going *and* build out the network further. But, I wouldn't hold your breath at this point.
Someone told me the other day that ricochet is dumb because it'll never be as good as 3G. I counter that ricochet is HERE NOW and works. It's going to be a shame if they shut if off next month...
