24 Year Old Wants To Buy Salon, Fire Staff

from the interesting-plan dept

A 24-year-old who's main credentials seems to be that he has run a failed dot com, is now looking to buy Salon.com, fire the entire staff, and instead have it syndicate articles from other sources. Of course, one of the reasons Salon is worth reading is because the original content is pretty damn good. This plan does away with all of that. Also, he doesn't actually have any agreements from any of these content companies to syndicate their content to Salon. It certainly doesn't seem to be the most well thought out plan...

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    oh, this is sad.

Poor, noble Salon. Reduced to pornography and begging. And now a hostile takeover attempt by a snotty 24 year old. At least mp3.com got bought out by a real company. This is just sort of pathetic.
