Yet Another Dot Com Documentary

from the a-bit-late-to-the-party dept

We've already discussed the ridiculous number of "dotcomentaries" coming out or in production. Well, here's yet another documentary about dot coms, but this one is late to the party - in more ways than one. Not only is it coming out after a bunch of these other ones, but it also covers things when everything was good. It sounds like a lot of the quotes in the movie are really funny with the benefit of hindsight as the comedic edge. The people sound absolutely full of themselves. It's a bit funny, though, that the movie in some ways is a "dot com" story of its own. The money for the movie came from rich dot commers (perhaps that's why it makes them out to be brilliant visionaries), but has been scaling back quite a bit over the past year. It was originally a three hour series following 12 companies. Then it was a two hour movie following eight companies. Now, it's just a one hour special covering three startups. Might be worth watching for the laughs.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
