People Who Like The DMCA
from the unfortunately-these-are-people-in-Congress dept
With all the talk about how silly the DMCA is, and how Adobe was convinced by a bunch of hackers to back down on sending a programmer to jail for it, don't expect the law to change any time soon. It seems that the folks in DC are very happy with the DMCA. It's not surprising that some big companies are happy with it, because it allows them to be sloppy and make more money at the same time. You would think at some point some folks in Congress would wake up, look at the law and realize that it causes a lot of pointless problems that hurt more people than it helps - but that doesn't seem likely. The story also suggests that it's unlikely for the government to be dropping the case against Sklyarov any time soon.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

The best that we can hope for is for the current generation to die off and make way technically literate versions...
