Orbitz Claims Mysterious Conglomerate Is Ganging Up On Them
from the um,-the-only-conglomerate-I-see-is...-Orbitz dept
It seems that Orbitz has become quite the paranoid dot com. They're now claiming that a scary "conglomerate" of companies are ganging up on them to help Sabre's Travelocity. This is funny because Orbitz is the company that was created by a "conglomerate" of five of the leading airlines. The details of how this came about are somewhat interesting as well. It seems that some folks bought tickets through Orbitz, and when they showed up at the airport, the airline (Vanguard) told them the tickets were no good because Orbitz screwed up. Orbitz then said that the problem had nothing to do with them, but that Vanguard was obviously a part of this mysterious conspiracy to kill Orbitz. All I can think of is how much it would suck to show up at the airport and not be able to fly because your stuck in the middle of some fight between a dot com and an airline.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
