Web Shoppers Are Lazy

A new study points out that many online shoppers are lazy. They very rarely shop around, and even when they do they tend to stick with sites they've already bought from - even if the products are more expensive. The study suggests a number of reasons for this (trust, familiarity with layout), but what it comes down to is the old time=money concept. It's much faster to deal with a site you're already used to. They even calculate that a retailer has a $2.49 price advantage for a customer that has already bought from them over a new retailer. This probably explains why people still shop around for big ticket items like airfare, but stick with a single site for music and books.

Just because the Internet came along, it won't change peoples' basic behaviour - the majority goes with what's comfortable in almost every situation.
