Licensing Computer Users?
from the uh,-yeah,-like-that-would-ever-happen dept
I read a lot of technology news. There are very few reporters who I tend to think are consistently off-base with their reporting, but I'm beginning to feel that way about Wired's Michelle Delio. She is the person who almost single handedly made people believe that there was a hacker war going on with the Chinese over the spy plane incident. It also seems like every article that feels like its pure "overhype" at Wired comes from her as well. The latest is this bizarre article about how some people are thinking that computer users should be licensed. The thing is almost no one is seriously thinking about this. And, most of the quotes in the article make it clear that this isn't such a great idea. However, she still comes back to say maybe it's not such a bad idea.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
