Forcing Wireless Carriers To Detail Dead Spots
from the wouldn't-that-be-nice dept
Plenty of people I know hate their cell phone provider. One of the biggest complaint is the unknown "dead spots" - especially when they occur some place where the person is quite often, such as their home or office. It's even worse when you don't find out about these dead spots until after you've done something silly like signed a one year contract. So, now some folks are working on legislation that will force wireless carriers to detail their dead spots. I can see how this would be useful... but I also know that dead spots change depending on lots of factors. When I first moved into the house I live in now I couldn't get service unless I stood in the corner of the living room. However, now it's fine. Of course, it might have helped that I complained like a madman.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
