Sand Hill Road Vacancies

from the I-want-to-see-them-put-up- dept

Sand Hill Road is the famous road in Menlo Park where many of the big name venture capitalists have their offices. Well, perhaps fewer venture capitalists than before. Apparently, Sand Hill Road has a lot more vacancies than they've had in a while, and rent on office space is actually dropping there as well. While the whole Bay Area has had a huge drop in rental rates for office space, Sand Hill Road has historically been "above all that". Of course, the rates are still ridiculously high, but I guess the mythical entrepreneur who wanders up and down the road banging on every door will find a lot more that don't answer these days.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Tip of the iceberg

A 7.5% vacancy on Sand Hill road is just the tip of the iceberg. I drove through an area of Mountain View (mostly Shoreline near 101) the other day and practically every building was for lease. There were so many that it was a bit scary -- Houston must have felt this way after one of the oil business busts 20 or so years ago.
