No More E-Tickets

from the too-simple-to-get-by-security dept

So much for e-tickets. With the new security rules going into place e-tickets just aren't going to cut it for security any more. You're going to have to show additional information proving the ticket is yours, such as a receipt. And, of course, you will now need to check in at the front counter, rather than directly at the gate. I'm wondering what this means for people like me, who already have e-tickets to travel somewhere in the next few months.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Southwest has been working around the clock with U.S. Government and airport authorities to implement heightened security directives.

"We want to thank our Employees for their tireless efforts to prepare Southwest to fly again. This has not been an easy task, and we're grateful for the patience of our loyal Customers," said Southwest's CEO Jim Parker. "Safety is our first concern, and we wish to commend the Federal Aviation Administration for its leadership in establishing new security measures for the protection of the traveling public."

At the airports, all Southwest Airlines Customers will need one of the following to enter the appropriate terminal: a printed Southwest Airlines Ticketless confirmation letter, a printout of their confirmation if booked through Southwest's web site, southwest.com, or their paper ticket. If confirmed Southwest Airlines' passengers are not in possession of one of these documents, they may request a faxed copy of their confirmation by calling Southwest Airlines Reservations at 800-IFLYSWA (800-435-9792), print out their Ticketless confirmation page on southwest.com, or request a printed confirmation at the Southwest ticket counter.
