Surgery From 4,000 Miles Away

Some surgeons in NY used a robotic system and a high speed data line to remove the gall bladder of a woman in France, 4,000 miles away. It sounds as though the experiment was pretty successful. By using the robot, the incision was significantly smaller, and the surgery took about the same amount of time as it would normally. Plus, the surgeon was able to sit down, and wasn't expected to stand the entire time. I just wonder what sort of backup procedures they have in place? Do they have a "second team" located locally in case the data line gets cut off or something?
