Amazing. Some guy set up a site to sell fake IDs. He promised the best fake IDs money could buy, and lots of people seemed willing to cough up the $75 to get it. The problem was he never actually delivered any of the fake IDs he sold. The brilliance of the plan was that he predicted (mostly correctly) that no one would ever turn him in, because that would mean they were purchasing an illegal fake ID. However, he was caught - but not because an angry customer turned him in. Congress started investigating the abundance of fake ID sites, and so some researchers ordered from him this guy to show an example of what could be ordered online. They never got their IDs, and that started the investigation...Thank you for reading this Techdirt post.
