Heart Kept Beating Outside Body

Ron Morris writes "I just think this is cool... It reminds me of some 50s horror movie. And there's a photo too!" He's talking about the incredibly creepy device that is being tested to keep a human heart beating outside the body. Apparently, similar devices have been used for kidneys and other non-human organs. The device basically keeps pumping warm blood into the heart to keep it going for a bit longer than they could if it were just left on ice.
