What The Wireless World Can Learn From History

The Economist takes a look at the wireless internet and points out that we can probably learn a lot from history in figuring out where it needs to go from here. Partly, they point to the way in which the internet developed. However, they talk more about the transition from the telegraph to the telephone. Initially the telephone was called the "speaking telegraph" in much the same way as people now refer to mobile data systems as the "wireless web". If people get stuck in the mindset that the "wireless web" is just taking the regular web and sticking it on mobile phones, then they're missing out on plenty of opportunities.
