Why History Will Repeat Itself

from the web-services...-here-we-come dept

An interesting (if somewhat biased) article from the co-founder of Bowstreet (a web services company). First he talks about the history of recent technology slumps - and out of every one a new "major revolution" in computing has emerged. After 1969-70, we moved beyond mainframes to minicomputers. After 80-81, we moved on to open systems and UNIX boxes. After 90-91, everything was client server. And, now, he claims we'll see the rise of web services as the new paradigm (at least until the next tech downturn - which appears to be a ten year cycle). It's a good article, simply in that it reminds us that downturns end and gives a fairly useful prediction for where things are heading.
