Are Web Services Really Coming?
from the who-the-hell-knows dept
A lot of people have been talking about how "web services" is the next big revolution, and yet, many people still don't know what the hell web services means. Partly, that's because it means a lot of different things, depending on who you're talking to. That's only one of a bunch of questions that need to be answered before web services have a chance to be successful. I definitely think it's an interesting shift, but the people who really really believe in web services need to do a better job explaining what they are and why they're helpful. Most people I know who are "true believers" in web services seem to act like the benefits of web services are so obvious that only an idiot wouldn't see what was happening. Either there are a lot of idiots out there, or no one has really been able to explain web services clearly.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
