How I Learned To Love Spam
from the desperate-times... dept
Spam sucks. However, some people are apparently trying to mentally condition themselves not to hate spam, but, instead, to find some sort of redeeming value. For instance, now you have the power to quickly and easily reject many people in a single day. Doesn't that feel good? Well, not to me, but the writer of that article seems to think so. He then goes into some weird argument that sounds like it's likely to appear at the bottom of spam email in the future - saying that we're all "access snobs" who want to be able to be in contact with anyone we want, but who are unwilling to allow the world to have contact back with us. The difference, of course, is that I can tell some random bozo to bug off if I never want to hear from him again. I can't do that with spam.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
