Kids Get A Permanent Record In The UK
from the who's-naughty... dept
I remember, as kids, the joke was on whoever threatened to put some infraction on our "permanent record". My friends and I figured out quickly enough that there wasn't much of a permanent record to be afraid of. That might not be true in the UK any more, as they've decided to put together a big database of "bad kids" to watch out for. Seems a bit harsh. Of course, not everyone is thrilled with the idea, and privacy experts in particular think it's a terrible idea.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

There *is* a permanent record...
I know; I have one... and no, I've never been convicted, indicted, charged, arrested (I have
had a few speeding tickets and a summons for
non-appearance, but that's really the limit of
my illegal activities) or any of that. If you
don't think *you* have an FBI record, you should really check it out... you probably do
