Broadband Petition
from the too-bad-it's-not-for-me dept
Someone in the UK is starting a petition for better broadband in the UK. Not clear what good it will do, but dammit, I want a petition for better broadband in Silicon Valley. For the record, in the last 10 months alone, I've attempted to get broadband from the following companies (none of whom are still offering it): Northpoint, Rhythms, Sprint Fixed Wireless, and Metricom. I'm now getting my broadband from AT&T@Home who are supposed to turn it off this Friday. You would think that in the center of all this tech innovation I'd be able to get a decent broadband connection. You'd be wrong, apparently.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

What About Earthlink??
Oh wait. I've got one. To get an actual human being on the line for tech support will cost you anywhere from 1 to 3 hours of your time. I kid you not.
But at least they are in business. I'd rather wait the 1+ hours than to have no broadband at all.

Re: What About Earthlink??
Given Masnick's broadband track record, and my latent superstition, I must now declare: "Whatever you do, Mike, don't get Earthlinked!"
