Not Everyone Impressed By SegWay
from the for-good-reasons... dept
After watching Good Morning America this morning and reading up on the SegWay, I have to admit that I think it's pretty cool... but probably not worth all that hype. At $3,000, it's way too expensive to make sense as a consumer product. So, some production efficiencies are definitely needed. A few questions I had: will it fall over when the batteries run out? Why not just add a third (or even fourth) wheel to make it more naturally stable? People were going on about how stable it was, but there are plenty of stable vehicles out there that don't require a crazy computer powered gyroscope (or ten of them). It seems that others aren't completely convinced of the SegWay's future either. However, that doesn't mean this first edition won't inspire other devices that really are revolutionary.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
